The first class of veterans was inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame (OMHOF) on July 7, 2000, and each recipient was awarded the Ohio Medal of Valor.

The annual induction ceremony is always held on the first Friday in May in the Atrium of the Ohio Statehouse.

The Ohio Military Hall of Fame recognizes those Ohio veterans who both experienced hostile fire and received medals for valor.

Ohio is the first state to recognize its veterans in such a way.
